Welcome

Students United isn’t your typical youth group or student club. We are a group of students dedicated to having our voices heard so we can make our schools and communities safer and stronger. We know that real change only happens when people get together and speak up with one voice and demand solutions. We are students known for STANDING UP and fixing problems affecting today’s youth. Join students from across the city who are making a difference and stop letting other people speak for you.

Students United is a project of Hope Street Youth Development whose
mission is to provide opportunitesfor students to be empowered to
THINK for themselves, SPEAK for themselves,
and ACT to create positive social change.

DID YOU KNOW:

Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgender/Queer (GLBTQ) youth are as much as 5 TIMES more likely to attempt suicide than other young people?

Other statistics show more than 30% of all GLBTQ youth have attempted suicide at least once?

It’s time to take action!! The Safe Step Youth Focus will identify problems and create solutions that improve quality of life for GLBTQ youth in Kansas schools. The Safe Step Youth Focus will be an open forum for discussion, organized and directed by students for students. All concerned students, their friends and family are invited to attend this fact-gathering meeting, which will help us determine future projects to address the needs of GLBTQ youth in Kansas schools. An adult forum will be facilliated concurrently.
